President and CEO honored with prestigious award
February 2010
ADI President and Chief Executive Officer, Darnell Lattal, has earned West Virginia University’s prestigious Eberly College Alumni Award for important contributions she has made in her community and within her profession.
"Dr. Darnell Lattal is an exceptional representative of the Eberly College and the ideals for which our faculty and students strive for in their own careers," said Bonnie McBee Fisher, Director of Development and Alumni Affairs. "She has built an impressive reputation as an international specialist in behavior-based business strategies and as an accomplished author of business ethics."
Earning a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from WVU in 1980, Lattal attributes her academic experience to changing her life in ways she hadn’t expected. "Thanks to WVU, I was well grounded in the science of behavior analysis and its ethical applications at the individual and systemic levels. Throughout my career and now as CEO of ADI, the focus on positive reinforcement and strategies of positive change provide rich opportunities to continue to learn, along with my clients, about this wonderful field of positive behavior change." Lattal believes that her current work is ideal for helping to build a team committed to the same interests she’s had throughout her career in culture, ethics and optimizing human potential.
Lattal’s activism in public service has contributed to the state of West Virginia and the University. Previously, she was special assistant to the Provost for Academic Affairs, and the VP of Student Affairs. She also served as the liaison for the President to various boards and faculty committees, as well as represented the office of the President on various review panels. She served as an adjunct professor of psychology at WVU, past president of the West Virginia Psychological Association and is a licensed psychologist in West Virginia.
Lattal has also been a political and social activist. She was the director of a four-county community mental health center’s program to prevent child abuse, has had several jobs in clinical and educational settings, and has worked on the national political scene to reduce violence in America. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the International Association of Behavior Analysis, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies.
"This award is truly an honor. I feel privileged to be recognized from the Eberly College of Arts & Sciences where ideas and ideals are formed for students in the best ways."
Lattal is an internationally-known consultant and an expert in business ethics and behavioral trends in the workplace. She has written three books, including her most recent, "A Good Day’s Work," (McGraw Hill, 2007) and her expertise has led to consulting work on a variety of topics, including organizational redesign and change management, performance measurement and systems design.
